Alright, this kung-fu bizness is getting serious. What are your favorite kung-fu movies? I’ve been watching a lot and there are some real masterpieces out there. Here’s some of my favorites:
Master of the Flying Guillotine (1975)
This one is about a blind kung-fu master [of the flying guillotine] trying to track down a one-armed dude who killed the master’s cronies. There are so many ridiculous stereotypes and kung-fu styles on display, and some of the best fight scenes in any movie. There’s even a Dhalsim guy. DHALSIM, I tell you!!!!
Police Story (1985)
Arguably Jackie Chan’s best movie ever. The locales aren’t as epic as most of his later movies, but the action is top-notch. Always frantic and fast-paced, and good comic execution as well.
Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky (1991)
What a ridiculous movie this is. It’s supposed to be like a live-action Fist of the North Star. The action is insane and laughable, awesome claymation violence and even better dubbing.
Chocolate (2008)
This has one of the best single scenes in any action movie, with the unknown (to me, anyway) Yanin Mitananda displaying a virtuosic ability in hella different fighting styles. It’s worth it just for the closing battle scene.
Dragons Forever (1988)
Another Jackie Chan joint here, but this one has everybody’s favorite chub-fu master, Sammo Hung, and the always underrated Yuen Biao as his moronic friends. Lots of really implausible yet awesome 3-way fights between them and an epic final showdown, which one should always expect from any good Jackie Chan film.
Born Invincible (1978)
Starring the ridiculous Carter Wong, Born Invincible takes bad dubbing and awesome sound effects to the extreme like Vanilla Ice, and the fight scenes are surprisingly good as well. This one goes great with spacecake.
Seriously, I need some feedback from everyone on this one. What are some other kung-fu movies I should check out?
